1959

FALLS CREEK’S NEW START

The completion of the Kiewa Hydroelectric Scheme in 1959 marked a new start for Falls Creek, as the village moved from being an offshoot to a major construction site into being an alpine tourism resort valued and promoted by state government agencies.

1961

THE BOWL’S LIFT

These fresh  beginnings  coincided with major new investments in the lift capacity here at The Bowl and these are clearly shown in the 1961 map of the village. At this time the leases for the on snow facilities to be located alongside the new T-bars were vacant.

1964

FRYING PAN INN GROUP

All this changed in 1964 however when the Frying Pan Inn group consisting of Bill Bridgford, Geof Henke and L G Morrison got a license to construct their restaurant here.

ESTABLISHMENT

Open in time for the 1965 season, the Frying Pan venue was damaged by fire in 1967. Subsequent renovations dragged on until 1973 when things were back up and running smoothly.

The Frying Pan today is famous for its Apres drinks and darts. This location has always been known as the central hub of The Bowl. Facilities once located here include the Old Race Hut and also the Ski School Meeting Point.
